New Directions

It's been kind of a quiet day. Two of the docs that I do work for are out of the office at a conference, so I haven't received any transcription work today. That's cool, my latest invoice is my biggest yet (not all that big, but each one has been bigger than the previous, so that's good). Here in my part of Colorado, the last few days were downright balmy, but today something blew through, and I've got the heater back on. Been overcast all day, just has that kind of "rainy day, bowl of soup, good book, nap" kind of feeling. I did something today I've never done before. Well, two things, actually. I enquired about possbily writing for another blog, This Lesbian's Life, and I submitted a photo of my wyfe and I on our wedding day for a "hottest kiss" contest on A Lesbian's Life. http://www.alesbianslife.com/ Now, that is a huge step for me. Submitting the photo, I mean, not so much the lesbian or the wife part. Just putting a ph...

Morning

It's Thursday morning, 5:42 a.m. I'm waiting for the boys to get here, and actually got enough sleep last night to get up, shower, dress and make a cup of chai tea. Mornings really are my favorite part of the day. They're quiet and hopeful. No matter how bad things might have been the night before, just seeing that soft glow beginning to develop in the east has a way of erasing the worst of it and kindling a little flame of hope deep inside for something better. Since yesterday afternoon, it's been very foggy here. That's quite unusual for this part of the state because normally we are so dry. We don't even get to 100% humidity when it rains! HUGE evaporation--lots of rain doesn't even hit the ground, it just makes those grey streaks across the sky called virga. So, when it IS foggy, it's very mysterious and creepy, like something out of a Victorian London thriller (Jack the Ripper, anyone?). There's a park directly across the street from us...

Just stuff

It's Super Bowl Sunday and I couldn't care less, but that's OK. I'm also fighting off a horrible cold and that's NOT OK. I HATE being sick, and I'm not sick very often, or for very long, and when I am, I'm miserable. A hacking, coughing, wheezing, sneezing, miserable mess. Sounds lovely, doesn't it? But, after sweating my way through the night with a heating pad, and changing clothes a couple of times, I do feel better this morning. Trouble is, I promised my partner, G., that I would go with her to her ex's house for a Super Bowl party this afternoon. And everyone there smokes (I am a total nonsmoker, and she quit about a month after we met and hasn't smoked since). With a cold, smoke is even worse than normal. She has PROMISED me that we only have to stay about an hour, and I plan to hold her to it. In fact, if I look sick enough, folks will believe me when I say I'm not feeling all that great. Actually, I think that my ambivalenc...

Re-activating the Crone

So, I made this blog back nearly 2 years ago, and then promptly forgot about it. Chalk it up to many things: a crazy work life, family chaos, approaching 50, whatever. Then, a few days ago, I decided I wanted to blog again, and couldn't remember where I had put my old blog, so I started a new blog (CO-GrumpyGranny), and lo, and behold, my old blog showed up! Not exactly where I left it, but close enough. How cool is that. I even had a couple of comments. So, here it is, January 2007, the year I turn 50. Although, according to various lore, I won't REALLY be a crone until I turn 56, the crone and the lure of the older, wiser woman has always appealed to me. In fact, I've been part of an online "cronethread" e-group for going on 12 years now. I find that pretty amazing. Here are some things I've discovered as I get older: Things that happen are just not that critical. Drama is not exciting anymore, except on stage or on a movie screen or in a book. I...

Claiming the Crone

Friday, January 7, 2005 This is a new experience. Would never have even thought of trying a "blog", except it's nearly quittin' time at work, and I am, for once, almost nearly caught up with everything I need to do for this week. What is "claiming the crone"? What is a "crone"? Most people would think of an old, shriveled up, pruney great-grandmotherly type, sitting quietly in her rocker, in the corner, quiet and unnoticed, except perhaps when she turns out a new pair of socks or a tea cozy with her knitting needles. Not so! A crone is a powerful woman, full of the deep wisdom of life experience, the joys, the sorrows, the tragedies. She has experienced love and loss and emerged from both stronger, wiser and better than she was as a young maiden. Who says youth is wasted on the young?? Who says a crone isn't "young"? I call on all women over the age of 40 to claim their crone, to be vivid and vibrant as the years pass, to rage a...
